Shot List

The following is a list of shots I will take in each location

Location: Orchard (Hill - Narrative/Performance scene)
Shot Types: Extreme long shot, Long shot, Mid shot, Close up
Description of sequence: Martin walks towards the camera and every so often it cuts to him at a closer distance. At the end of the cuts he sings the opening lines

Location: Orchard (Tree - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot
Description of sequence: Martin is sat on a small tree playing his guitar and singing along to the music.

Location: Cabot Eye (Outside - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot, Close up
Description of sequence: The shot starts looking at a pillar and when the backing vocals start martin appears from behind the pillar (singing the vocals) at which point the video switches form a mid shot to a close up.

Location: Cabot Main Building (Studio - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot, Close up
Description of sequence: Martin and "The band" are playing the chorus to the song. The sequence starts off with a mid shot of martin singing and the drummer in the background. Then it switches to a low angle mid shot of just martin singing and then back to the first shot. After this the scene moves on to a high angle mid shot of the drummer playing along to the music, and when the final beat of the drum occurs in the chorus the camera switches to a high angle close up of the drum thats hit last. When the chorus ends there is a brief pause in the music, at this time in the sequence it cuts to a mid shot of the guitarist looking confused.

Location: Cabot grounds (Tree stump - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot, Long shot
Description of sequence: The next verse starts with a long shot of martin singing along the lyrics looking directly into the camera. In the cuts to a low angle shot of martin singing but he's still looking into the direction of the original camera. The camera then cuts out to the original shot in this sequence and the close up from the Cabot eye sequence (he sings along to the backing vocals)

Location: Cabot grounds (A-wing basketball nets - Performance/Narrative scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot, Close up, Long shot
Description of sequence: Martin is shown outside by a Long shot and he has a basketball in his hand he then sings along for a few more seconds and then throws the ball over his shoulder. The next shot is a close up of the basketball net and you then see the ball go through the hoop, at witch point it switches back to a close up of martins face winking.

Location: Cabot grounds (Side entrance - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Long shot, Mid shot
Description of sequence: This scene starts of with a long shot of a bush, then the backing vocals start in the song and martin appears from behind the bush in a mid shot singing them. The camera then cuts to behind with a high angle mid shot and then back to the second shot.

Location: Cabot Main Building (Studio - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Long shot, Mid shot, Close up
Description of sequence: The scene starts of the same as the first sequence with mid shots of martin and the drummer and a close up of the drum. After this instead of a pause there is a guitar solo, so the camera switches to a mid shot of the guitarist (the camera is looking down along his guitar) and then it goes to the left of the guitarist looking at him playing. After it goes to left it goes back to the original shot of the guitarist playing and then to a mid shot of the drummer playing along to the music.

Location: Cabot eye (Front patio - Performance scene)
Shot Types: Mid Shot, Close up
Description of sequence: There is a mid shot of martin sat down with his body facing away but his face is looking into the camera singing. We then switch to a close up of him singing from the same position as the first video. Then the camera is pointed straight onto his body with a mid shot and martin is looking down the lens and singing and then back to the original shot.

Action Plan

What are the steps we need to do so that we can complete the music video?

  • Secure actors for members of the band and for backing dancers
  • Make sure we have the appropriate clothing for the music video
  • Ask the Music department if we can borrow the Recording studio and musical instruments for the video
  • Find a set of outdoor speakers so that we can listen to the music for synchronizing
  • Choreograph dance routines

Music Video Research

Music video research
After watching music videos of the same genre I have came to the following conclusion on the conventions:

Music Video Conventions
1. The artist will almost always be in the video
2. Often Live clips are shown
3. The video makers generally try to have a message to the video.
4. A lot of 90's music videos will try to have fun in the video.
5. The artists are usually wearing very eccentric clothing.
